The Conversation You Keep Putting Off Could Be The Gift Your Family Needs Most
Â
I Know You're Scared To Have Them, I Was Too.
Â
When Families Don't Know What To Do
It often begins with a phone call that changes everything. Your loved one has collapsed and been rushed to the hospital. When you arrive, they're surrounded by monitors, tubes, and a medical team moving urgently. They can't speak. Can't tell you what they want. Then someone turns to you and asks: "Do they have any wishes we should know about?"
Your mind goes blank. All you can manage is "I don't know." And so the machines are turned on. Without guidance, families fracture under the weight of impossible decisions. One person insists everything must be done. Another believes it's time to let go. The room fills with tension, guilt, and questions that may haunt you for years: Did we do too much? Did we give up too soon? What would they have wanted?
Even the deepest love can't protect you from the pain of uncertainty.
Â
It doesn't have to be this way.

From Panic to Peace:
When Families Know What to Do
When someone shares their final wishes—when they've had the courage to say what matters most—everything shifts. The path through one of life's hardest moments becomes gentler, clearer, more filled with love than fear.
Families no longer have to guess or second-guess. They can focus on being present instead of making frantic decisions in crisis. They can offer comfort, share memories, and say the things that need to be said. Even in grief, there's a profound sense of peace that comes from knowing: We honored them. We heard their voice. We did what they wanted.
These conversations aren't a burden—they're a gift. They transform confusion into clarity, conflict into connection, and fear into the kind of love that carries families through their darkest days and stays with them long after.

This is what becomes possible when we find the courage to talk about what matters most

Currently working in a Medical Intensive Care Unit, she specializes in supporting patients facing critical illness and complex health challenges. What truly drives her work is her commitment to hospice and palliative care, helping patients and families navigate end-of-life journeys with compassion, dignity, and grace. For Joany, nursing isn't just about medical expertise; it's about being present, offering comfort, and honoring each person's unique needs during life's most profound transitions.
Â
About Joany
Joany is the heart behind JoanySpeaks—a wife, mother, grandmother, and registered nurse who has spent more than two decades caring for people in their most critical and tender moments. With a background in intensive care and hospice nursing, she's walked alongside countless patients and families as they've faced life's hardest decisions and most sacred transitions.
But Joany's understanding of this work goes far beyond her professional training. She's lived it. Having experienced devastating losses within her own family, she knows firsthand the ache of feeling unprepared, the weight of unanswered questions, and the deep longing for guidance during impossible times. Those experiences didn't break her—they shaped her mission: to offer others the compassionate support, honest conversations, and gentle clarity she wishes she'd had.
Over the years, Joany has witnessed the full spectrum of end-of-life experiences—some marked by prolonged suffering, others by profound peace. What she's learned is this: the difference often comes down to having open, loving conversations before crisis strikes. When families talk about what truly matters ahead of time, everyone can move forward with greater confidence, fewer regrets, and a deeper sense of connection.
Beyond her clinical work, Joany is also a devoted advocate for preserving what matters most—the stories, the wisdom, the love that deserves to be passed down. She believes in the power of legacy-building, encouraging families to capture memories and create meaningful tributes that honor those they cherish.
Through JoanySpeaks, Joany now offers something she's uniquely equipped to provide: a blend of medical insight, personal understanding, and heartfelt guidance. Her coaching, resources, and self-paced tools are designed to help you approach end-of-life conversations not with fear, but with courage, compassion, and the confidence that comes from knowing you're not alone.
